The NZ South Island National Dahlia Show, held at Waikouaiti Saturday and Sunday 21 - 22 Feb 2015

Just a quick post before I rush back up the hill to the Dahlia Show. If you are in East Otago today, do make a point of visiting the Dahlia show at Waikouaiti at the Event Centre on the main road at the top of the hill. This is a fantastic event with hundreds of gorgeous flowers on display that have come here from all over the South Island (and probably one or two from the North Island too!).

Today there are garden tours in addition to the show itself, so there is a lot for people to do and to see.

We have a small stall at the show to display some of my pots, and I should be there for most of the day today.

Must have some pots to put those flowers in! It's very hard to take in that other people are experiencing warm weather right now.

Hi Melissa,
Good to hear from you. Having all those colourful flowers around really did make it feel like summer!
Those giant blooms brightened my day here in the gloomy winter of North Carolina. Your pottery display looks great amongst the flowers.

Hi Michèle,
You must have been writing to me at the same moment that I was commenting on your blog! 5.30 Monday morning here, and it was quite a weekend up at the show. We were so lucky to have such a major event in our small town, and I did sell a couple of pots at the show too.

some lovely examples there of all the different types of dahlia. Hope you had some good sales, did you run out of vases by the end of the program?

Hi Anna,
Good to hear from you. "run out of vases.." I wish, but I did have a good couple of sales over the weekend.

oh those dahlias are wonderful, I grew them in California in raised beds and they were so spectacular, hope you had lots of sales and they bring on future sales. were there any ikebana floral arrangements at the show? I've always been facinated with those arrangements and keep saying I'll make some of those types of pots and bonsai ones but never get around to making them, one of these days.

Hi Linda,
There were some arrangements at the show, but I confess to not knowing technically what sort they were! I will put some more photos or the show with my next post, and try to include an arrangement or two!
